No Room in the Prison? Let 'em Out? Crazy No?

A panel of three federal judges decided that the California prisons are over crowded and that up to 55,000 inmates will have to be released within three years so that the prisons are all warm and fuzzy for the remaining 100,000 or so inmates. Once again the powers that be have lost their minds! Now I'm the first to acknowledge that there are probably a significant number of inmates that probably shouldn't be incarcerated. My feeling is that if someone isn't a violent criminal and a threat to society fines and public service might be a better solution than prison where they get an education in being a hardened criminal. Also, keep in mind not much of anything is legal in California and that probably fills up the prisons pretty good too. Did you know it's illegal to attach a GPS to your windshield in California? I have a feeling that isn't a felony though. All this being said, do you think that fully one third of the California prison population is of no threat to the normal, law abiding population? I think not! Additionally, California frowns upon good law abiding folks defending themselves. To my way of thinking this is sheer insanity and a further example of politicians and do-gooders that lack common sense meddling into things they shouldn't. Imagine, conditions for the prisoners are bad due to the over crowding so let's let them out and make conditions bad for the good law abiding people. Am I missing something here?
